What do I need?
- 10 traditional beef sausages
- 20 g butter
- 4 medium brown onions, thinly sliced
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- 1 sprig thyme
- 400 mL beef stock
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp tomato sauce
How do I make it?
- Melt butter in a large frying pan and add onions. Stir, cover with a lid and cook over medium-low heat for 10 minutes or until softened. Remove lid, add sugar and cook for a further 15 minutes or until the onions are golden. Remove from pan and set aside.
- Cook sausages in the same pan until browned and cooked through. Remove sausages from pan, cover with foil to keep warm and set aside. Return onions to pan and add in flour and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add thyme and slowly add stock. Bring to the boil and simmer until the sauce is smooth. Add Worcestershire and tomato sauce and stir to combine. Return sausages to the pan and simmer for a minute or two to heat through.
- Serve sausages with mashed potato and spoon sauce over the top.
