Bratwurst in Beer

Bathing bratwurst in beer adds a new dimension to the flavour. Pop in a roll with onion, mustard and pickles for a tasty lunch.

What do I need?

  • 1 large brown onion, diced
  • 4 cans beer
  • 10 Wursthaus bratwurst sausages
  • 2 tsp chilli flakes
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • To Serve
  • Grilled onion
  • Mustard
  • Pickles

How do I make it?

  1. Heat a barbecue or grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil.
  2. In a large saucepan add beer and onion and bring to the boil. Add the sausages with the garlic, chilli, salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the bratwurst rom the beer mix and reduce heat to a simmer to continue cooking the onion.
  4. Transfer the bratwurst to the barbecue or grill and cook, turning occasionally, until evenly charred.
  5. Using tongs, remove onion from the beer mixture. Place the bratwurst into bread rolls and serve with onion, mustard and pickles.
