Blood Orange Ice Cream

This zesty ice cream combines the tangy sweetness of sun-ripened blood oranges with a creamy, smooth base, creating a luscious dessert that’s perfect as we head into the warmer weather.

How long will it take?

20 minutes, plus setting time

What’s the serving size?

Serves 2

What do I need?

  • 395 g can sweetened condensed milk
  • 120 mL freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 60 g cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp blood orange zest, finely grated
  • 500 mL cream
  • Orange food colouring, optional

How do I make it?

  1. Mix condensed milk, blood orange juice, vanilla and salt in a large bowl until combined.
  2. Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and orange zest on medium speed until smooth, then reduce speed to low and slowly pour in cream. When all cream is added, increase speed to medium-high and whisk to stiff peak stage.
  3. Gradually add the whipped cream to the condensed milk mix and fold through until all combined. If using food colouring, add and mix to combine. Spoon mixture into a freezer-safe container, cover and freeze until firm, about 5 hours.
