Use this cheap cut of beef to make delicious budget-friendly meals
With the days getting colder it’s time to bring out the slow-cooker or your cast-iron pot and think about warming braises and stews using cheaper cuts of meat.
Gravy beef, also known as braising steak or chuck steak, is best for dishes that involve slow cooking, like stews, casseroles, and pies. Its high connective tissue content and rich flavour make it ideal for these methods, where it becomes incredibly tender and tasty. It's a cost-effective and versatile cut for a variety of hearty, comforting meals.
We’ve had gravy beef on special in the last few weeks at $17.95 kg and its normal price is around $21.95 kg. With about 1kg of meat needed for a family-sized stew, it’s an economical choice which goes even further when cooked with veggies and served with lots of buttery mashed potato.
