Sneak Peek – Meet the Producers

Hill Street Sandy Bay Saturday April 5 from 12 noon to 4pm

We’re very excited about our Meet the Producers event at Hill Street Sandy Bay on Saturday April 5 from 12 noon to 4pm. It’s also the official launch of the Easter season at Hill Street. There will be lots of Easter-themed goodies to taste and order, plus our Autumn and Easter Food magazine will be available for you to pick-up your FREE copy.  This year you can also read our magazine online and place your Easter food order all in one handy place, hillstreetgrocer.com/easter

Here’s what you’ll be tasting…

Supporting our local growers and makers is what Hill Street has always been about. Our Meet the Producers events are a chance for you to come along and meet the farmers, makers and growers who supply our stores. Enjoy free tastings and discover your new favourite products! Here are just a few of the producers you’ll meet and products you can sample.

Anvers Chocolate

Owner Igor Van Gerwen was born in Belgium where his love of chocolate began. At the age of 20 he began sharing this love with Tasmania and soon established Anvers Chocolates, which has supplied Hill Street for more than 23 years (that’s before Hill Street was called Hill Street!). Of course, Easter is an especially delicious time at Anvers Chocolate. Come and meet Igor’s team and taste away!

Making an appearance on our Easter Food Order Form for the first time is a delicious product from Tassie trio Joel, Shane and Tom, who farm abalone sustainably on land at Stanley in north-western Tasmania. They developed their ready-to-heat-and eat product, Abalone with Gochujang Butter, exclusive to Hill Street, in collaboration with our Executive Chef Al Dennett and the Hill Street Kitchen.

It puts a restaurant-quality abalone dish on your table within eight minutes – and must be tasted to be believed.

Lakker Chocolatiers

Dimitri and Jae Smet are the owners of award-winning chocolaterie Lakker, based in Rokeby, in southern Tasmania. Both trained as pastry chefs before meeting in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, marrying and moving to Tasmania with the dream of opening their own chocolate enterprise here.

Today Dimitri and Jae employ a team of three and have won many awards for their delectable chocolate. Get into the Easter spirit and taste some of the most delicious chocolate creations Tasmania has to offer.

Scottsdale Pork

Scottsdale Pork, a Tasmanian business founded by the Unwin family in 1991, is known for its ethically raised, high-quality pork products. This Easter in our  Easter Food Order Form we are featuring Scottsdale’s Rolled Unseasoned Roasting Pork, ready for you to prepare at home for a delicious Easter lunch.

The Unwins know exactly how to create the perfect crackling – the queues for tastings last year at this event were testament to how delicious it was!

Tasmanian Oyster Co

Established by a group of oyster farmers on the East Coast in 1979, Tasmanian Oyster Co first focussed on growing spats (baby oysters) for the local and international oyster industry. They started selling mature oysters to the consumer market in 2019, and by 2022 had sold a milestone one million dozen mature oysters! Today, they employ over 100 people and grow oysters in several regions: Pipeclay Lagoon near Clifton Beach, Cowell in South Australia, Boomer Bay (Dunalley), Pittwater, Duck Bay at Smithton, and Little Swanport.

Come and meet the team from Tasmanian Oyster Co who can walk you through a tasting of their world-renowned oysters.  They’re featured in our Easter Food Order Form so try them before you order.

Hill Street Kitchen

Lead by our Executive Chef Al Dennett, our team at the Hill Street Kitchen have put together some delicious Easter dishes, all ready for you to heat and finish in your oven at home.

Sample the Salmon en Croute, Seafood Pie, Roasted Spiced Cauliflower and Balsamic Glazed Vegetables and then order via our Easter Food Order Form.
