Who’s Who in the Crew – Hill Street West Hobart 10th Birthday Edition
Hill Street West Hobart’s store on the corner of Hill and Arthur Streets is turning 10 and as part of the festivities we’ve been celebrating some of our longest serving team members at that store. Some of them go way back to the earliest days of Hill Street.
This week we chatted with Nikola, who started with the original Hill Street store at 109 Hill Street 22 years ago! Nikola is our quiet achiever, whose loyalty and dedication is one in a million!
Q: When did you start at Hill Street?
A: I started work with Hill Street West Hobart in 2003 in the Fruit & Veg department.
Q: What was the store like when you joined?
It was small and all the staff were like family.
Q: What has been the biggest change?
A: The growth of the stores. When I came it was just one small shop. It’s great to see the expansion.
Q: What makes Hill Street West Hobart so special?
A: I have been here since the start. It has become like a second home and family for me.
Q: Who is your favourite team-mate and why?
A: Mario. Because he is an honest and hard worker.
Q: What’s Omiros really like to work with?
A: Good! He always comes to help us out when it’s busy. It’s good, we’re a good team.
Q: What was the all-time funniest thing that has happened at work?
When George K told me to carry fruit on my head and sell it!
Q: What was your most memorable day at Hill Street?
A: My first days. I was overwhelmed but everyone made me feel welcome. It felt like family immediately.
Q: What keeps you coming back to work each day?
A: The money!?! [laughs] And all the lovely people I work with - it makes the work environment enjoyable.
Q: What are you most proud of in your time at Hill Street?
A: That we have made a family at Hill Street.
We want to thank Nikola and our entire team at Hill Street West Hobart for all their hard work and dedication over the years, to make this store such a special place. And to the West Hobart community who came out to help us celebrate our birthday over the last few weeks, and for supporting us all this time - THANK YOU!
