How to wash blueberries … kitchen helper

Did you know that the white, waxy coating on blueberries is a safe and  natural part of the fruit and a sign of freshness?

Known as the “bloom” this substance which is also found on grapes and plums, acts as a barrier against insects and bacteria and seals in the natural juice of the fruit.

So, should you wash blueberries before you eat them? We recommend washing all fruit before consuming it but timing is crucial. Don’t wash blueberries until you’re ready to eat them, as this will prevent them going mouldy from excess moisture.
