How to peel tomatoes … kitchen helper
Most recipes that use tomatoes as an ingredient in sauces require the tomatoes to be peeled. Traditionally the way to peel tomatoes is to cut an X on the bottom of the tomatoes and put them in a pot of boiling water for about one minute. You then remove the tomatoes using a slotted spoon and plunge them into a bowl of cold water or an ice bath, before removing them and peeling the skin off with your fingers.
There is another technique that is even easier that you might like to try. For this technique you slice the end off the tomatoes and then place the tomatoes in a bag in the freezer to freeze. When you want to use them, remove them from the freezer and place in the fridge overnight to defrost. Then to remove the skin, simply hold the tomato over a bowl with the cut side facing the bowl. Give a little squeeze and the tomato will fall into the bowl, leaving the skin in your hand.
