How to make mulled wine … Kitchen helper

With the colder days drawing in, there’s no reason to hibernate.  Entertaining in winter in Tasmania takes on a whole different feeling when you embrace the cold.  With a firepit burning and a glass of mulled wine in your hand, who’d be anywhere else?

Making mulled wine is easy and involves things probably already in your pantry. Just combine a 750mL bottle of red wine of your choice (something full bodied like a shiraz or cabernet), with one orange sliced into rounds, 8 whole cloves, 3 cinnamon sticks, 3 star anise, ¼ cup honey and ½ cup brandy. Bring to a simmer but don’t allow to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 10 minutes.  Ladle into glasses and serve warm with additional orange rounds as garnish if desired.
