Precisely no-one likes their gravy lumpy. And while it happens to all of us from time to time there are a couple of quick fixes that will have it silky smooth in no time.

You can pass the gravy through a fine sieve to remove any lumps or use a stick blender to blitz the lumps out. Once the lumps have disappeared, return the gravy to the heat and bring to the boil to thicken. If the gravy is too thin, a teaspoon of cornflour mixed with cold water and added to the gravy will help it to thicken.
