How to … cut a pineapple
Begin by laying the pineapple on its side.
Use a sharp knife to cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple.
Stand the pineapple up and slice it down the centre to create two halves.
Next remove the core from the centre of the pineapple. The fibres of the core run in the opposite direction to the rest of the pineapple so you just need to use the edge of your knife and line it up with the edge of the core and slice down and inward. This will remove the core.
With the core removed, slice each half of the pineapple in half and then take each quarter and slice it down the centre until you reach the skin. Do not cut through the skin.
Rotate the quarter of pineapple and make 1-2 centimetre thick slices all the way down to the skin.
Finally take the edge of your knife and run it between the flesh of the pineapple and the skin to loosen all the pieces. Slide the pieces off the skin and you will have perfect bite-sized pieces of pineapple to enjoy.
