Kitchen helper: How to Clean Your Barbecue

Barbecuing is a great way to cook in summer and keeps your kitchen free of cooking smells and mess. But leaving your grill dirty will only make cleanup harder and more of a hassle next time you use it. Do these three things each time you barbecue, and it won’t be such a chore.

1.   Clean while warm: After cooking, allow the grill to cool slightly, but not completely. While it's still warm, use a grill brush to scrape off any food residue from the grates. This prevents buildup and makes cleaning easier. For stubborn spots, a mixture of water and vinegar can be sprayed on, then scrubbed with the brush.

2.   Soak the grates: Remove the grates and soak them in warm, soapy water for about 10-15 minutes. This helps to loosen any remaining grease or food residue. Then scrub them thoroughly, rinse well, and let them dry before placing them back on the grill.

3.   Empty the drip tray: Don’t forget to empty the drip tray to avoid a grease fire and to help your barbecue operate optimally.

Keeping up with these simple steps after each use will ensure your barbecue stays clean, safe and ready for your next grilling session.
