Budget helper: How to clean out your fridge with the help of your blender

Here’s a tip next time you clean out your fridge which will help you stop food waste and save money.
Let’s say you find yourself with the following things which are on their way out or which you won’t have time to use before they expire:
- Wilted herbs
- Overripe bananas
- Soft Berries
- Tomatoes past their best
- Wilted spinach or kale
Don’t bin them! Instead, get out your blender or food processor, and some ice cube trays or small Ziplock bags.
Wizz them up in the food processor or blender and then freeze them ready for future use:
- Your spinach, kale and herbs can be combined into a zucchini slice or spanakopita.
- Berries and bananas can be purréed and then frozen in portions for use in cakes, muffins or smoothies.
- Tomatoes can be purréed and frozen to use in a tomato sauce for a pasta.
Not only will this tip save you money, but it will save you time, as part of your prep is already done.
