How to use leftover frozen puff pastry … kitchen helper
We love ready-made frozen puff pastry, it’s one of those ingredients that makes life so much easier. Invariably though, we always seem to end up with one sheet leftover from the pack. Rather than waste it we’ve come up with three tasty solutions for how to use that last sheet of frozen pastry.
Scrolls – lunch anyone? For a quick and easy lunch, spread your pastry sheet with vegemite and top with grated cheese, roll into a log shape and cut into 2 centimetre pieces. Place on a baking tray, sprinkle with a little extra cheese and bake until golden brown.
Croissants – Place pastry sheet on a chopping board and cut in half so that you have two rectangles. Cut each rectangle diagonally so that you have 4 right-angled triangles. Dollop a teaspoon of Nutella on the shortest end of the triangle and roll up. Place on a baking tray and brush with a little beaten egg and cook until golden.
Tarts – raid the fridge for leftover bits and pieces to create a delicious savoury tart – try ricotta, goat cheese, parmesan, tomatoes, mushrooms, herbs, salami, cold barbecued chicken, red onion. Cut pastry to create two squares and some strips approximately 1 centimetre wide. Layer the strips around the edge of the squares and then add ingredients into the centre of the square. Bake until pastry is golden and puffed.
