Use it all … oranges

In our continuing quest to reduce food waste, we’re looking at ways you can use oranges when you’ve got too many. Sweet and juicy, oranges are a firm Aussie favourite fruit. They are a great source of antioxidants, vitamins, and folate and offer a range of nutritional benefits. Our diverse climate offers the ideal conditions to produce citrus fruits including oranges, and in Australia we produce around 450,000 tonnes of oranges every year.

So what do you do if you find yourself with more oranges than you can eat? Of course, you can make orange juice but did you know that you can freeze oranges whole?  That’s right, you can pop whole oranges in the freezer so that you always have them on hand. To defrost, leave them in the fridge overnight and then you can use the to make juices or smoothies, or in baking. Don’t throw away the peel either. Use it to add flavour to casseroles, curries, stir-fries and baked goods.
