Just in...Symons Organic Dairy Co
Give this range a try for well-priced, organic cheeses and butter – plus some cute packaging
They say you can’t judge a book by its cover but in this case, the quirky line drawings on the packaging of this organic cheese and butter range really jumped out from the dairy case when we went shopping recently for nice new things at our local Hill Street store.
The individual personalities of “George”, “Bruce”, “Albert” and others which feature on these cheeses and butters are endearing and piqued our curiosity about this organic dairy company based in Victoria and, as the packaging says, was established in 1919.
Servicing the Bendigo region since then, Symons’ Dairy was established by Albert Symons. His son George took over in 1953 and in those days, milk was delivered by horse and cart or ladled into your own billy at the farmgate. Today a third generation of Symons, headed by Bruce, continues the tradition with fourth generation Charles and Nick Symons, great-grandsons of Albert, also recently joining the business.
Symons Organic Dairy Co cheeses and butters are available in all Hill Street stores.
Today the range is all-organic and includes a cheddar, a ploughman’s cheddar and a vintage cheddar, a parmesan, a halloumi, a mozzarella, a brie, a camembert, and salted and unsalted butters.
Bruce Symons is a passionate advocate of organic production, and the superior taste, chemical-free status and environmental sustainability of the Symons range are all big winners for us. Couple that with a surprisingly good price for a specialist organic product (the vintage cheddar is $9.95 for 150g and the parmesan is $8.95 for 150g) and they win a place on our weekly shopping list.
