Spreading hope with Loaves and Fishes

A huge thank you to all our customers who donated at Christmas time

We were thrilled to be able to hand a nice big cheque to Tasmanian not-for-profit Loaves and Fishes this week which represented all the donations made by our generous customers in-store and when making their on-line Christmas orders in November and December last year.

Total donations from customers totalled $2380 and once Hill Street matched this amount as we promised to, we were able to hand over a tidy $4760!

Thanks to the generosity of our customers, Loaves and Fishes will make good use of these funds to assist them in their valuable work in the community.

Loaves and Fishes gathers surplus food bound for landfill, transforms it into ready-to-eat meals and delivers it state-wide through more than 250 partner agencies such as St Vincent de Paul, the Salvos and Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania.

Loaves and Fishes also provides employment opportunities, training, work experience and other practical support for disadvantaged Tasmanians, and partners with School Food Matters to deliver approximately 6000 free hot school lunches per week to more than 30 government schools across Tasmania through the School Lunch Project. Through partner agencies Loaves and Fishes feeds 15,000 Tasmanians each week and also supports more than 60 Tasmanian School Breakfast Programs.

Upon receiving the cheque from Hill Street’s CEO, Steve Longmore, Loaves and Fishes CEO Andrew Hillier shared:

"This incredible donation from Hill Street and its customers couldn’t have come at a better time.

As demand for our services continues to grow, this support allows us to not only meet immediate needs but also expand the reach of our programs. Each dollar helps us procure more food, create more meals, and deliver hope to families, children, and individuals who are struggling across the state.

Together, we are working towards a vision where no Tasmanian goes hungry, and with the help of community partners like Hill Street, we’re making that vision a reality every day."

Hill Street is honoured to help such a worthwhile organisation, and we hope to build on this total next Christmas. Thanks Hill Street Community!
