As pretty as a picnic… three ways to take your picnic from drab to fab

Pack your picnic basket, it’s time to find a spot in the shade to relax, unwind and enjoy one of life’s little pleasures. The humble picnic has had a glow-up, say “bye, bye” to itchy woollen blankets, soggy sandwiches, and a thermos full of lukewarm (or boiling hot) coffee.

Picnics have increased in popularity over the last few years with perfectly styled picnics a favourite for bridal showers, intimate proposals, birthday parties, and baby showers. Businesses have even been built on the premise of beautifully styled, gourmet picnics for those wanting to go big for an event. Hiring someone to style and curate your picnic is all well and good for an event or a special occasion, but sometimes you just want to add a little extra luxe to your weekend picnic in the park.

Here are our top tips to elevate your alfresco dining experience.

1.     Plastic cups are out, acrylic glassware is in – A really easy way to make your picnic a little “fancy” is to grab some beautiful acrylic glassware. Available in a wide variety of colours, styles, and price points you’ll be sure to find something that catches your eye. Best of all you can use them time and time again.

2.     Buy a good quality picnic basket – A high-quality picnic basket is a good investment and if you buy one that is already insulated there’s no need to bring a bulky esky. An all-in-one picnic basket is a great idea if you don’t want to take everything but the kitchen sink. Pick one with a wooden lid, this can double as a table or a cheeseboard.

3.     Don’t buy disposable – Buy quality picnic crockery, napery and cutlery that will last. Every picnic will be as pretty as a picture with quality items to use.
