EcoHarvest Tasmania farm in Liffey Valley
Looking to eat more organic food? Check our fruit and veg aisles! You might have seen some organic fruit and veg appearing in your local Hill Street’s fresh produce section late last year. Eating and using organic products is a choice many are making these days and we’re thrilled to have two new suppliers on board to make this choice easier for you.
EcoHarvest Tasmania is a certified organic berry farm located in the Liffey Valley, about 20 minutes from our Longford store. Their main crop is strawberries at the moment and they will soon be harvesting blackberries. First year raspberry canes are not yet in production but will come online next year. The team at EcoHarvest say that their mission is to feed the soil that feeds them: they farm less than 50% of their productive land, to ensure they keep a natural balance of insects, microbes and fungi, and sow various cover crops and flowering plants. This is a safer, sustainable and healthier growing environment in which to produce real food, with real flavour, grown without synthetics and chemicals.
EcoHarvest’s aim since their startup in 2023 was to supply Hill Street and we were delighted to support this small enterprise of young and enthusiastic organic farmers. We’re thrilled to say that EcoHarvest’s strawberries are now stocked in all ten Hill Street stores statewide. Their strawberries are delectable, and they’ve been flying off the shelves. Coming soon will be frozen strawberries to see us through the cooler months.
Green Camel supplies us with organic tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and baby cucumbers.
Green Camel’s aim is to make organic and pesticide-free produce consumption mainstream. They have successfully developed the technology to build and operate industry-leading commercial organic glasshouses, with production at the same or better yields than conventional hydroponic glasshouse producers.
What results are sweet, juicy tomatoes and fresh, green baby cucumbers without any chemical nasties used in the growing process.
And don’t forget our range of organic salad leaves and greens, herbs and veggies from York Town Organics, an industry stalwart we have stocked since our very early days at Hill Street more than 20 years ago.
They’re a small, certified organic local market garden pioneered by Bruce and Clare Jackson three decades ago and today they are still producing a wide range of the freshest organic produce available in Tasmania.
