Easter … the perfect food occasion

Easter … the perfect food occasion2.jpg

Easter in some respects is the forgotten food celebration. Think about it, we go all out at Christmas planning menus and cooking up a storm, but Easter just doesn’t seem to get the attention it deserves. This is obviously a massive oversight because there’s a lot of reasons why Easter is the perfect foodie occasion. Here’s our top five reasons why we love Easter feasting.

1.     Um, hello … chocolate!

Any holiday, celebration or event that features an abundance of chocolate is a definite winner in our eyes.

2.     Time of the year

Easter falls in Autumn which is great news because Autumn is a season of abundance with plenty of fresh produce available. Being an Autumn holiday also means that the weather is milder so traditional Easter favourites like lamb are easily enjoyed.

3.     You do you

Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE Christmas but there are some strange Christmas traditions, like eating a roast turkey in the heat of summer. At Easter there seems to be more freedom and individuality in menu choices, whether it’s a seafood feast, a roast, or a picnic.

4.     Leftovers

While Christmas is a great opportunity to hone your logistics skills shuffling leftovers around the fridge, Easter doesn’t present the same challenge. For some reason we seem to be more restrained at Easter; in fact it’s likely that the only leftovers that you’ll have to deal with are chocolate, and let’s be honest, that’s a pretty nice leftover problem to have.

5.     Egg hunts

No matter how old we get the excitement of an Easter egg hunt never wanes. There’s no better way to work up a hearty Easter appetite than by searching for hidden treasures in the garden.
