Cape Bruny Oysters own and operate oyster leases on Bruny Island, Cloudy Bay Lagoon and Simpson’s Bay. They produce around 150,000 dozen oysters per year using production methods that have minimal environmental impacts. Cape Bruny Oysters are instituting a trial of the New Zealand Flip Farm System to further improve environmental outcomes and product quality. The Flip Farm System is a floating basket system that reduces environmental footprint by replacing complex pole and wire systems with floating baskets on ropes. It enables the oyster baskets to be accessed on the deck of the oyster barge, eliminating human disturbance of the seabed.
