Just in – Buttery Bikkies from Bisko
If you’re looking to spend your bikkies on some delicious Australian-owned-and-made bikkies, then look no further than Bisko! Read on to find out how this family-owned baker’s small beginnings in the 1860s led to them selling their delicious range of real-butter homestyle favourites all over Australia.
Do you remember Mac’s Shortbread? It came in a round tartan tin and you honestly couldn’t stop at one once you prized the lid off.
That shortbread was baked by the McAlpin family, who started with a small bakery in Abbotsford, Melbourne in the 1860s. As time went on, this little bakery grew into a bigger bakery which then became McAlpin’s Flour.
In 1960, McAlpin's Flour was sold and the McAlpin family went on to purchase a cake shop in Camberwell. From there, they went into biscuits and built a factory which they soon outgrew. From this biscuit factory the Mac's Shortbread Company was born in 1964.
Fast forward to today, and with six generations of passion and experience under their belts, the family now operates from an eco-friendly, state-of-the-art facility in Kerang, Victoria, employing 19 locals. Having expanded way beyond shortbread, they’re now baking under the Bisko brand of moreish, all-Australian biscuits made with real butter, which we’re now proud to stock at Hill Street.
We stock the full range which includes, of course, Shortbread Fingers, as well as a Choc Striped Shortbread, and Macadamia Fingers. We also love their Berry Moments which are a melting moment-style jam sandwich. Cute for little (and big) people are the Choc Animal Shapes, Macadamia Koala Shapes, and Mini Gingerbead People. They’re perfect for a small treat or lunchbox snack.
The Bisko range is available in all Hill Street stores statewide and is on promotion until 19 September. Check our catalogue for details.
