All about … Afourer mandarins
Juicy, sweet and with minimal seeds, Afourer are one of the most popular varieties of mandarin. Afourer mandarins are easy to segment and easy to peel, making them perfect for school lunch boxes. Afourer was introduced into Australia relatively recently, in the early 2000s and has proven to be an enormously popular mandarin variety since then. Maturing mid to late season, they prefer a sub-tropical climate to grow, but will grow in most areas of Australia with proper care. Afourers are easily identifiable as they have a darker deep orange-red colour skin. Choose mandarins that are firm to slightly soft, heavy for their size and pebbly-skinned. Afourers are a good source of vitamin C and dietary fibre.
