6 reasons you should be eating … Grapes
What’s tasty, juicy and the perfect blend of sweet and tart? It’s grapes of course!
These delicious little berries (yes, botanically they are a berry) can be eaten raw, cooked or dried and they also make delicious drinks … wine anyone? But aside from the pleasure that comes from eating and drinking grapes, there are a whole range of health benefits that mean you should definitely be including them as part of your diet. Here’s six great reasons to enjoy grapes:
1. Dietary management
With a low glycaemic index, no fat, and low kilojoules, grapes are a great snack. They are also a nutrient dense snack which means that you can eat more for a lower kilojoule cost.
2. Heart health
Compounds in grapes can help to reduce inflammation from oxidative stress, help regulate blood pressure, improve blood flow and protect your vascular system, all of which are important for heart health.
3. Hydration
Grapes are predominantly made up of water so like other high-water foods, they are excellent for assisting with hydration. Good hydration helps with cell regeneration and overall health.
4. Anti-inflammatory properties
Antioxidants in grapes may help to reduce cellular damage. The antioxidants found in grapes can help protect your tissues by limiting chemical reactions that trigger inflammation.
5. Get your glow on
Colourful fruits and vegetables including grapes contain phytonutrients that may shield skin cells from the effects of ultraviolent rays. Eating high-water foods like grapes also improves your skin’s hydration leading to a more radiant glow.
6. Drink up
We think we’ve saved the best for last because research continues to show that regular moderate wine consumption is linked to overall health improvements, including a reduction in the risk of chronic disease. So let’s raise a glass to that!
