There’s something so exciting about a new year … not the least of which is the chance to reset your life and make resolutions for a healthier, happier you. Unfortunately, many of us fall off the wagon and come the end of January, all those good intentions have given way to our old bad habits. But, it doesn’t have to be that way. The trick to sticking to your New Year’s resolutions is to make them realistic and attainable. Here’s our top five suggestions for resolutions that you can achieve this year:

1. Up your fruit and vegetable intake – if you’re not getting your 5 serves of veggies and 2 serves of fruit a day then make 2020 the year to do it. Add a serve of vegetables or fruit to each meal and you’ll easily reach that target.

2. Sleep – we often underestimate just how important good, quality sleep is. Too little sleep will not only leave you feeling blah, it can also increase the risk of depression, weight gain and heart disease. If sleep doesn’t come easily to you try cutting back on caffeine, making a regular bed time, and decreasing screen time before going to bed.

3. Get a check-up – visit your doctor and dentist for an annual check-up to try and catch problems before they become more serious.

4. Let’s get physical – we don’t need to lecture you on the importance of physical activity but we can offer a suggestion to get you moving more. Forget expensive gym memberships, the best way to get moving is to find an activity that you enjoy like be walking the dog, swimming, or dancing and do it regularly.

5. Go green – there are many health benefits associate with green tea including reducing the risk of heart disease and diabetes. To boost your health and wellbeing this year try swapping one cup of coffee a day for a green tea.
