Who’s Who in the Crew – Hill Street Latrobe 10th birthday edition

It's hard to believe, but it’s been 10 years since Wells Latrobe joined the Hill Street family. In that time we’ve worked hard to preserve the history and community feel that the Wells family imbued into the site since 1893.

The best thing about adding Wells Latrobe to the Hill Street family has been the wonderful people who came along with it – many of whom have been with Wells for more than three decades!

As part of Hill Street’s 10th birthday celebrations at Wells Latrobe, we’re celebrating our longest serving team members at that store.

This week we’re delighted to profile Julie, a fixture in our craft department since 1988!

Meet Julie: I have been at Hill Street Latrobe for 10 years, and before that, with Wells Latrobe since 1988. I’m a team member in the Craft department and I’m responsible for buying and selling craft merchandise and invoicing.

In one sentence I would describe myself as...

A true Gemini.

Meet Julie

Meet Julie

What was the store like when you joined? The supermarket had just had its first makeover and looked amazing.

What has been the biggest change?  Being purchased by Hill Street.

What makes Hill Street Latrobe special? The three other departments that Wells has, that no other Hill Street store has! [Guns, Ladieswear and Menswear, and Craft].

Do you cook at home?  What’s your go-to dish on a weeknight?  And for something special or a big family occasion? I rarely cook. My go-to of a weeknight is whatever Ros has cooked in the Deli that day. For a special occasion I make my white chocolate cheesecake.

My guilty pleasure is... Book shops and buying more books than I'll ever be able to read!

I am famous for my...Crochet.

The product I would most recommend from Hill Street is…The meals cooked by Ros in the Hill Street Deli.

Who is your favourite team mate and why?  They are all fun to be around.

All-time funniest thing that has happened at work?  When Caroline was preparing her shake for lunch and the lid wasn’t on properly. She wore most of it that day.

Most memorable day or event at Hill Street? Celebrating my 30 years at Wells.

What’s kept you coming back to work each day?  My co-workers, the customers and the job itself.

What are you most proud of in your time at Hill Street? I started in the supermarket and was given the opportunity to move to the Craft department. I am very proud to be in my one and only job 37 years later and I still love it to this day.

Thank you, Julie, for your amazing contribution to Wells and Hill Street Latrobe over almost four decades!
