Kitchen helper – Should you wash your berries?

There are a few schools of thought when it comes to washing berries. Read on to find out how preserve your berries’ shelf life and flavour.
We love summer because there’s an abundance of berries available in Tasmania. They’re colourful, delicious and have fantastic health benefits.
They are fragile however, and when it comes to washing, they need to be handled with care.
The bottom line is, all berries should be washed to remove any impurities and residues. Here are our tips:
· Wash them right before eating them, as washing too early introduces moisture that speeds up mold and spoilage.
· A gentle rinse in a cold water bath is usually enough to remove dirt and impurities.
· Drain and let them dry on a clean paper towel.
· Avoid soaking them as this will make them water-logged.
· If you’re concerned about chemical residues, give them a wash in a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts water. Drain, rinse with fresh water, and let them dry on a clean paper towel.
· Eat right away!
