What’s on the menu for your Easter Feast?

With Easter only two weeks away, it’s time to think about what’s on the menu for Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday is all about feasting. Traditionally, it marks the end of Lent, during which meat, eggs and dairy are given up to mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Many cultures across the world celebrate this day with sumptuous feasts featuring everything missed during Lent, with meat dishes taking centre stage.
Easter Lamb
Lamb is a traditional dish at Easter, especially in the northern hemisphere given that Easter occurs there during spring. For Christians it references Jesus who is often represented as a shepherd leading his faithful disciples.
In Greek culture lamb and goat are killed on big feast days, with Easter the most significant feast in the Orthodox calendar. Have a look at this guide for the many ways to roast and enjoy lamb at Easter.
Of course we are in one of the best places in the world for raising top quality lamb and whether you’re cooking a roast for a crowd or tasty cutlets for a small group, Tasmanian lamb from our Wursthaus butchery team is delicious!
Roast Pork
Pork is also a celebratory meal across many cultures who will fatten a pig especially for this feast. Suckling pig is a delicacy at Easter time in Europe and while it’s the wrong season for that here, a delicious pork roast like this one with all the trimmings will capture the celebratory spirit.
Again, our butchery team will have delicious pork roasts and other cuts in the meat cabinet for you ready for your Easter celebrations.
From our Kitchen to Yours
Our Executive Chef Alan and his team have also brought back some favourite festive dishes from our Christmas range which would make delicious centrepieces for Easter Sunday.
Our Beef Wellington features a fillet of high-quality Tasmanian beef, surrounded with a mushroom and herb duxelles, Wursthaus ham and crepe, all encased in golden, flaky pastry. Served with horseradish or a red wine jus and some roast vegetables, this makes an impressive dish with very little effort on your part – the Wellington is pre-cooked for you and ready to be finished in your oven in just 30 minutes! Serves 3-4 people.
And for those preferring a plant-based roast, our Hill Street Nut Loaf is a feast of mixed nuts, herbs, spices and chickpeas. It’s vegan and will serve about four guests.
Both these dishes are available in-store in the lead up to Easter. And remember, we also have on offer our famous Seafood Pie, Scallop Pie, Salmon En Croute and Blue Eye En Croute, all available in-store to help make your Easter entertaining easy!
