Hill Street Heroes – Jay, Devonport 10th Birthday Edition

Over the next few weeks, as part of our 10th birthday celebrations at Hill Street Devonport, we’re profiling some of our long serving Hill Street Heroes from that store. Jay is our Store Manager at Hill Street Devonport, We caught up with him recently and asked him what it’s meant for him to work at Hill Street for the past decade.

What was your first role at Hill Street and when did you start?

I started with the Grocery team as a casual in 2016.

Which stores have you worked in during your time with Hill Street?

Devonport and Latrobe.

What has kept you at Hill Street all these years?

The family culture, and the support I’ve received over the years both professionally and outside of work.

Funniest workplace moment?

There are quite a few involving Euan from the early Devonport days but I best not mention the details!

What is something only a long-serving Hill Street team member would understand?

The yellow aprons.
Gregsy in his pink shirts!

Favourite Hill Street memory:

The Japan trip hands down.

Which Hill Street person has had the biggest impact on you, and why?

Steve Longmore (our Chief Operating Officer). I’m not the leader or the person I am today without him. He saw something in me early on when I probably didn’t see it in myself. I owe him a lot.

What are three words colleagues would use to describe you?

  • Passionate
  • Humble
  • Accountable

What's your hidden talent?

I’m pretty handy at Darts 🎯

Thank you Jay, we are so proud of you and what you do for our Devonport store and our customers every day.
