Hill Street Heroes - Carla
Over the next few weeks, as part of our 10th birthday celebrations at Hill Street Devonport, we’re profiling some of our long serving Hill Street Heroes from that store.
Carla is Section Manager in our Deli and Butchery Department and was awarded her 10 Years Long Service Pin at our inaugural Hill Street Milestone Gala Dinner in August.
She was also nominated for the Mentor Award, an award which goes to someone who has excelled at training and supporting others.
We caught up with Carla recently to talk about her journey with Hill Street since she joined us in 2015, and what it’s meant to her to work at Hill Street all these years.
What was your first role at Hill Street and when did you start?
I started as a Team Member in the Meat Room at Hill Street Latrobe.
Which stores have you worked in during your time with Hill Street?
Devonport and Latrobe.
What has kept you at Hill Street all these years?
- People - everyone feels like family.
- Friendship - The life-long friendships I have made over the years.
- Growth - personal growth and store growth.
- Happiness - The happy feeling I get when I’m able to help people, whether it be staff or customers.
- Support - Steve [Longmore – now our Chief Operating Officer] has been my number one supporter in good and bad times and I wouldn’t be where I am today if he had never given me a chance.
- Support - My store managers, leadership teams and general team members have been a huge support to my success with Hill Street.
Funniest workplace moment?
Jakob finding the Easter Bunny suit upstairs and putting it on and pretending he was a bunny bouncing all over the place.
What is something only a long-serving Hill Street team member would understand?
You’ve been shegged 😂
When Greg bails you up talking a bit longer than he should have.
Favourite Hill Street memory:
Too many to list!
Every work event where we were able to get together and have fun.
The very first Meet the Producers night at Hill Street Latrobe in Station Square. This was so well set up and educational not only to our customers but also our team.
Our girls work-weekend to visit all the southern stores to get new ideas and look at what other stores had to showcase. We then implemented those things in our store. Everyone was so welcoming and took the time to walk us through their stores and products.
Which Hill Street person has had the biggest impact on you, and why?
Steve Longmore.
His passion for everything he does inspires me to do better and be better.
He interviewed and hired me as a meat room Team Member. He then promoted me to Meat Manager, then Deli and Meat Manager and then Section Manager. I’m so deeply grateful for all the opportunities he has given me.
What are three words colleagues would use to describe you?
Work Mum
Kind
Passionate
What's your hidden talent?
According to my husband I’m talented at everything 😂
Thank you Carla, for your hard work and the passion you bring to your team and our customers every day!
