Just in – Barilla Bay Oysters

Besides being delicious, there are a few more reasons this week to put Barilla Bay oysters on your Easter menu.
We’ve secured extra supplies of Barilla Bay oysters in the lead-up to Easter and they’ll be stocked-up in the deli section of your nearest Hill Street store. So come in and grab a dozen or two (priced at $22.95 per dozen) of these special gifts from the pristine cold waters of Tasmania.
Even better, we’re running a competition which will take the winner behind the scenes at Barilla Bay, which will include a tour of the oyster farm, a complimentary oyster tasting and two free trays of oysters to take home and enjoy.
To enter, simply purchase Barilla Bay oysters using your Hill Street Rewards account between Monday 30 March and Saturday 4 April to go into the draw.
Hill Street has been proud to support and stock Barilla Bay oysters for many years.
Founded in 1980 by the Forrest family, the Barilla Bay site was chosen for its water quality and the added bonus of proximity to Hobart Airport. As an early leader in Tasmania’s oyster industry, Barilla Bay pioneered new cultivation techniques, became a key shareholder in the state’s largest hatchery, and helped develop the ‘single seeded oyster’, eliminating reliance on wild catches.
In 1988, a processing shed enabled Barilla Bay to split and pack shellfish on-site, launching exports to the USA, Japan, Hong Kong, the UK, and Singapore. The farm shop, opened in 1992, was transformed in 2004 into a renowned a la carte restaurant and shop overlooking the oyster farm and Coal Valley, offering guests fresh oysters and local produce just metres from where they’re grown.
Today Barilla Bay is one of the state’s leading suppliers of premium pacific oysters and we’re delighted to stock them!
While we love eating them au naturale with just a squeeze of lemon, there are so many more ways to enjoy Barilla Bay oysters. Here’s some inspiration from Hill Street’s recipe collection.
